Ari Takes on his First Birthday

Ahoy! We Sailed Away for Ari’s First Birthday!

Hey guys! It’s been a minute since I last checked in. (The busy life of being a working mom), but I wanted to share the fun I had preparing my son’s first birthday party!!

For starters, I decided to host and decorate it myself! I’ve been wanting to do more DIY and crafting, so I figured this was the best time to take advantage of some ideas I found via Pinterest. (Check out my Pinterest page here!)

I have been obsessed with all things Nautical since before he was born. So there was no question when I needed ideas for his party theme.

Check out the invites I made with the Canva app!! (Of course I removed my address and phone number from before sharing 🤗)

My main focus was the backdrop. I figured that would be the most important part because it would practically throw everything together. PLUS it doubled as a super cute place to take pictures with the kids.

I borrowed my mom’s back drop hanger, which my sister and I fought to put together. It worked, but I still don’t know if it was right 🤷🏾‍♀️  I got the idea for the back drop off Pinterest. Basically, Pinterest is my go to place for all ideas if you don’t know this by now.

Materials Used:

5 plastic table cloths (purchased from the dollar store) 2 red, 2 blue, 1 white

2 strings of paper flowers (dollar tree)

Blue Fish Net (Amazon)

I cut holes into the folded table cloths before pulling them a part so that I could easily slide them onto the top pole of the backdrop. I wove them in and out so they could properly hang.  We didn’t have enough clips from the backdrop to clip them up, so I figured this was the next best thing. I tied each end of the fish net onto the side poles of the back drop and strung the paper flowers across the top.

I waited so last minute to prepare (I can sometimes be the worlds biggest procrastinator…ok! MOST of the time) so a lot of my plans didn’t come out the way I intended. For instance, I made homemade rice crispies, which I should have just listened to my little sister and BOUGHT them because it turned out to be the most annoying thing in the world and I swear on my life I’ll never attempt it again!! AND THEN she failed to tell me that I was supposed to use colored chocalate rather then cake decorating icing 🙄🙄. I guess I was supposed to miraculously know this. But anyway, although they weren’t as pretty as a had hoped, the kids loved them!

The treat table was probably the most expensive part of the party. Again, mostly because I waited til the last minute, and I was forced to purchase everything from Party City…not the best choice when you want to buy in bulk COST WISE; but they had every color you could think of. And then on top of that, the kids had candy for days! I purchased the treat boxes from Amazon which I ended up rating terribly because they sucked! I had to tape them together to keep the candy from falling out the bottom.

All in all, this kids absolutely had a blast and I enjoyed the outcome of it. This will PROBABLY be the last birthday party I throw at my house though. I keep hosting these little get-togethers and they are oh so stressful 😬 BUT! All’s well that ends well! 🤗
